Chess Board Illusion

Take a look at the following photo:



Are squares A and B the same color, or different colors?

It's frighteningly worldview-shattering, but they are the same color. Yup.

Okay... I've got a question. What way am I supposed to interrupt the picture....

1. They both really are two different colors, but now days nothing is black and white? Or...

2. They are the same color, because the big green cylinder is casting a shadow on the white, making it gray also? Or...

3. You need smaller chess pieces because those big green pieces are obstructing your view, so you can't even see the squares :-) Or...

4. None of those is what you mean.
